how long may you live once the hiv turns into aids?
Over the course of a year there have been a lot of opportunistic contagions going on, drs were treating him for normal pneumonia never detecting hiv or aids, while treating him for the normal pneumonia the sensations or changes never got any better, now diagnosed as aids he has a viral load of 42,964 and a cd4 count of 6. They did put him on Atripla and hes been on that for 2 weeks. My question is may he pull out of this or did they catch it too late? Just does not seem to be getting better..
A CD4 count of just 6 is extreamly low... anything beneath 200 is considered bad and means that you have been declared as having AIDS.
I don't recognise what the probabilities are with a CD4 of 6 as it just seems too low... 6 means his immune scheme is almost shut down.
It ought to be the other way round... your CD4 will have to be high and your viral load low as possible... ultimatley you want the viral load to be "undetectable"
Viral load = How much virus is in your body, lower the better.
CD4 = How some T cells = how good your immune system is. Higher the better.

In 1981, scientists in the United States and France firstborn recognized the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), which was later ran into to be caused by a virus called the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). HIV breaks down the body's immunity to contagions leading to AIDS. The virus may lie concealed in the body for up to 10 years without manufacturing any evident sensations or changes or before manufacturing into the AIDS disease, and in the meantime the person may unknowingly taint others. Currently, an approximated 40 million people international are HIV carriers, and three million a year are dying of AIDS.
HIV lives in white blood cells and is present in the sexual fluids of humans. It's difficult to catch and is disseminate largely through sexual intercourse, by needle or syringe sharing among intravenous drug users, in blood transfusions, and for the duration of pregnancy and birth (if the mother is infected). Using another person's razor blade or having your body pierced or tattooed are likewise risky, but the HIV virus cannot be transmitted by shaking hands, kissing, cuddling, fondling, sneezing, cooking food, or sharing eating or drinking utensils. One can not be infected by saliva, sweat, tears, urine, or feces; toilet seats, telephones, swimming pools, or mosquito bites do not cause AIDS. Ostracizing a known AIDS victim is not only immoral but also absurd.
Most blood banks now screen their productions for HIV, and you may protect yourself versus dirty needles by only permitting an injection if you see the syringe taken out of a fresh unopened pack. The simplest safeguard for the duration of sex is the proper use of a latex condom. Unroll the condom onto the erect penis; while withdrawing after ejaculation, hold onto the condom as you come out. Never try to recycle a condom, and pack a supply with you, as it may be a irritation attempting to buy them on short notice.
HIV is disseminate more often through anal than vaginal sex, because the lining of the rectum is much weaker than that of the vagina, and general condoms from time to time tear when employed in anal sex. If you have anal sex, only use extra-strong condoms and particular water-based lubricants, since oil, Vaseline, and cream weaken the rubber. During oral sex you will have to make sure you don't get any semen or menstrual blood in your mouth. A woman runs 10 times the risk of contracting AIDS from a man than the other way around, and the threat is always more outstanding when another sexually transmitted impairment of normal physiological function (STD) is present.
The very existence of AIDS calls for a basic modify in humane behavior. No vaccine or drug exists that may prevent or heal AIDS, and because the virus mutates frequently, no remedy may ever be totally effective. Other STDs such as syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, hepatitis B, and herpes are far more mutual than AIDS and may lead to severe complicatednesses such as infertility, but at least they may ordinarily be cured.
You ought to always exercise safe sex to prevent AIDS and other STDs. You never recognise who is infected or even if you yourself have become infected. It's primary to fetch the subject up before you start out to make love. Make a joke out of it by pulling out a condom and asking your new partner, "Say, do you recognise what this is?" Or perhaps, "Your condom or mine?" Far from being unromantic or embarrassing, you'll both feel more relaxed with the subject off your minds, and it's much better than worrying afterwards if you might have been infected. The golden rule is safe sex or no sex.
An HIV infection may be detected through a blood test, because the antibodies developed by the body to fight off the virus may be seen under a microscope. It takes at least three weeks for the antibodies to be invented and in a good deal of cases as long as six months before they may be picked up for the duration of a screening test. If you think you may have run a risk, you ought to talk about the appropriateness of a test with your doctor. It's always better to recognise if you are infected so as to be competent to keep out of the way of infecting others, to obtain early treatment of symptoms, and to make realistic plans. If you recognise someone with AIDS, you ought to give them all the support you may (there's no danger in such contact unless blood is present).

Review
Early in the AIDS epidemic, practitioners of Chinese medicine realized that their ancient healing art (based on heightening the body's own functioning and capacity to win a victory over illness) might offer distinguishable resources in fighting this diseases. Treating AIDS with Chinese medicine is a comprehensive handbook directed toward the practitioner and/or patient who needs to perceive not only how to treat people with AIDS but how to work with the resources of Western medicine. Treating AIDS with Chinese Medicine is also addressed to Western-trained doctors and healthcare works, as well as humans with HIV wishing to learn what Chinese medicine may and can not do. The writers present herbal and acupuncture systems found to be the most utile in sustaining well-being and minimizing the affect of opportunistic infections. Special segmentations focus on the treatment needs of women, drug-addicted persons, and people with hemophilia. While intended mainly for health practitioners, this is a manual that may and will have to be read by any person mesmerized in treatment number of things from which only one can be chosen for AIDS. -- Midwest Book Review

An Essential Sourcebook for TCM Practitioners
By A
This title is an essential source for practitioners treating HIV/AIDS - especially in a community-based setting. It is extremely readable and provides information covering pattern identification, herbal and acupuncture treatment plans and practical advice on creating a non-profit community clinic serving this population. It is a book I refer to again and again.
