Treating Aids
how long may you live once the hiv turns into aids?

Over the course of a year there have been galore opportunistic contagions going on, drs were treating him for normal pneumonia never detecting hiv or aids, while treating him for the normal pneumonia the sensations or changes never got any better, now diagnosed as aids he has a viral load of 42,964 and a cd4 count of 6. They did put him on Atripla and hes been on that for 2 weeks. My question is may he pull out of this or did they catch it too late? Just does not seem to be getting better..

A CD4 count of just 6 is extreamly low... anything beneath 200 is considered bad and means that you have been declared as having AIDS.

I don't know what the chances are with a CD4 of 6 as it just seems too low... 6 means his immune scheme is nearly shut down.

It ought to be the other way round... your CD4 must be high and your viral load low as possible... ultimatley you want the viral load to be "undetectable"

Viral load = How much virus is in your body, lower the better.
CD4 = How galore T cells = how good your immune system is. Higher the better.

Treating Aids

In 1981, scientists in the United States and France firstborn recognized the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), which was later came across to be caused by a virus called the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). HIV breaks down the body's immunity to contagions leading to AIDS. The virus may lie concealed in the body for up to 10 years without developing any apparent sensations or changes or before fabricating into the AIDS disease, and in the meantime the person may unknowingly taint others. Currently, an approximated 40 million persons international are HIV carriers, and three million a year are dying of AIDS.

HIV lives in white blood cells and is present in the sexual fluids of humans. It's difficult to catch and is disseminate largely through sexual intercourse, by needle or syringe sharing amidst intravenous drug users, in blood transfusions, and for the duration of pregnancy and birth (if the mother is infected). Using another person's razor blade or having your body pierced or tattooed are likewise risky, but the HIV virus cannot be transmitted by shaking hands, kissing, cuddling, fondling, sneezing, cooking food, or sharing eating or drinking utensils. One can not be infected by saliva, sweat, tears, urine, or feces; toilet seats, telephones, swimming pools, or mosquito bites do not cause AIDS. Ostracizing a known AIDS victim is not only immoral but likewise absurd.

Most blood banks now screen their merchandise for HIV, and you may protect yourself versus dirty needles by only permitting an injection if you see the syringe taken out of a fresh unopened pack. The simplest safeguard for the duration of sex is the proper use of a latex condom. Unroll the condom onto the erect penis; while withdrawing after ejaculation, hold onto the condom as you come out. Never try to recycle a condom, and pack a supply with you, as it may be a botheration attempting to buy them on short notice.

HIV is disseminate more often through anal than vaginal sex, because the lining of the rectum is much weaker than that of the vagina, and ordinary condoms most times tear when applied in anal sex. If you have anal sex, only use extra-strong condoms and special water-based lubricants, since oil, Vaseline, and cream weaken the rubber. During oral sex you will have to make sure you don't get any semen or menstrual blood in your mouth. A woman runs 10 times the danger of contracting AIDS from a man than the other way around, and the threat is always dandier when another sexually transmitted disease (STD) is present.

The very existence of AIDS calls for a basic change in humane behavior. No vaccine or drug exists that may prevent or heal AIDS, and because the virus mutates frequently, no remedy may ever be completely effective. Other STDs such as syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, hepatitis B, and herpes are far more mutual than AIDS and may lead to severe complicatednesses such as infertility, but at least they may commonly be cured.

You will have to always exercise safe sex to prevent AIDS and other STDs. You never recognise who is infected or even if you yourself have become infected. It's essential to fetch the subject up before you begin to make love. Make a joke out of it by pulling out a condom and asking your new partner, "Say, do you recognise what this is?" Or perhaps, "Your condom or mine?" Far from being unromantic or embarrassing, you'll both feel more relaxed with the subject off your minds, and it's much better than worrying afterwards if you might have been infected. The golden rule is safe sex or no sex.

An HIV infection may be detected through a blood test, because the antibodies invented by the body to fight off the virus may be seen under a microscope. It takes at least three weeks for the antibodies to be developed and in galore cases as long as six months before they may be picked up for the duration of a screening test. If you think you may have run a risk, you will have to talk about the appropriateness of a test with your doctor. It's always better to know if you are infected so as to be competent to keep away from infecting others, to obtain early treatment of symptoms, and to make realistic plans. If you know somebody with AIDS, you ought to give them all the aid you may (there's no risk in such contact unless blood is present).

This book was a nice change from most college textbooks that I have read. I'm not sure that it can even be considered a textbook, but we used it for our class. There are nice examples of documents that are useful for counseling individuals with a variety of issues.

This is the ultimate, up to date text for all addictions professionals. I was fortunate to begin using this book right after it was published for teaching my classes in Substance abuse, and use it as a reference point for information and where to find additional information. This is one of the best books I've found in my 20 years as an addictions professional.

Baby Sleep Aids - So Everyone Can Sleep Well

The problem is that there are a heap of baby sleep aids available, so which one do you choose?    Here are a few examples of baby sleep aids that are normally applied and that you may wish to undertake to see if they'll support to solve your baby's sleeping problem..

Firstly, how may you go wrong with the good old blanket?  At galore point, each single one of us has us clung on to a blanket as babies.  The comfort, security, and warmth will leave a baby sentiment snug and concede him to relax if he's having trouble sleeping.  It's one of the best and most used baby sleep aids ever.

As a variation of this, you could use galore other transitional object such as a teddy bear, or perhaps mom's t-shirt, so that your baby may settle down with a smell that he or she is comfortable with.

Unfortunately though, there are times when a blanket or other transitional object just won't be enough, so you may wish to consider utilizing another baby sleep support or baby sleep technique.

Night lights are likewise mutual baby sleep aids and may help make your child feel a little more comfortable in their dark surroundings.  Although we may not know it, babies may often wake up and cry because they aren't applied to being alone and they don't recognise their surroundings.  A night light will give them security when they open their eyes. Being in intimate surroundings and being capable to see the baby toys above the bed or stars on the ceiling will put them at ease.

Music or sounds are likewise great types of baby sleep aids you might want to undertake if you haven't already.  Soft, carefree music such as classical musical at low volumes is very comforting for a baby's ears which may aid get them to sleep.  You could even leave this music playing through the entire night if it helped.  Alternatively, white noise, which may sound horrid to adults, may be exceedingly comforting for a baby.  A fan, having the television on, or even the sounds of nature .... birds, rain or whale sounds are very common. There are likewise white noise CD's you may buy with the sound of a vacuum cleaner or washing machine etc. Again, these sound rather strange but in truth may help.

Although all of these are all capable baby sleep aids and numerous parents will testify to their effectiveness, it is also possible that none of them may work for your child.  No two children are the same and so there is unluckily no single cure-all for baby sleeping problems.  However, with galore tried and tested baby sleep techniques, a good sleep procedure and the odd baby sleep aid thrown in for good measure, you and your baby may soon be getting the full nights sleep that you richly deserve.

Aids Orphans
What is UNICEF's position on children's homes/orphanages for HIV/AIDS orphans?

They would like AIDS orphans to be cared for by the extended family, if possible, in preference to an orphanage, but that's not always possible. However the necessary matters are education, nutrition, accommodation and healthcare. Here's one pertinent article at the UNICEF website.

Aids Crisis Africa
How do feel regarding Obama getting AIDS/HIV test in Kenya?

I am proud that he is a political figure representing the U.S. He did more than just speak with regards to tackling the AIDS crisis in Africa he did something very important. By showing Kenyans it is OK to be tested. One of the biggest hurdles in fighting the AIDS epedimic in third world countrys is the cultural stigma surrounding the virus , and cultural norms envolving female sexual empowerment, and condemn use.
Why does everything come down to Dem's or Rep.'s. It dosen't matter to me what party he's in if he was a Republican I would still be proud of him.

And as for him not fixing the difficulties of crime, un-wed parenthood, etc. Why hasn't our president? Since your bringing it up. Make sure you hold him to the same standards.

Eh? Proud - too strong a word for THAT.

Why isn't he back in IL getting the inner city crime rate down, unwed mothers off welfare, guns out of the hands of kids, stopping the drug dealing in the US...

Aids test in a alien country - proud - aahh....NO!

EDIT: My President isn't in Africa getting an aids test - he is here in the US saving your butt from terrorists. Obama goes to Africa - kinda goofy if you ask me. Much to do HERE!

Aids Prevention

Colloidal silver has been widely known to be an effective substitute treatment method for bacterial infections; it is antibacterial properties support a person boost or help their immune system to cope with severe or chronic diseases. Colloidal silver is sold as distilled water that has microscopic silver nano molecules in it.

Back in the year 1990, the Albert Einstein College of medicine in New York City studied the effects and the gains of little currents of electricity applied directly to the blood, normally through electrodes placed in one artery. The exploration shows that majority of the sicknesses that are caused by viruses, bacteria, microbes, germs, pathogens, and parasites may be treated and controlled through the electrification of a patient's blood. In fact, their exploration shows that if a patient's blood stream receives a current of 50 to 100 microamperes all the viruses and bacteria are eliminated. Once they are eliminated, the bacteria are got rid of from the blood stream through the kidneys, liver, and lymph. It is thought that colloidal silver is also effective in controlling infection in the body.

In the case of AIDS and HIV treatment, colloidal silver attacks the virus and prevents them from affecting healthful body cells and exceptionally the CD4 T helper cells in the immune system. Opportunistic infection is the major problem came across by AIDS/HIV persons who requires medical care who invent an impaired immune system; It is reported that by using colloidal silver, people who are in need of medical care may prevent or reduce infection complicatednesses and boost their immune system. Colloidal silver is reported as being very effective in boosting a person's immune scheme and therefore helping them prevent or control the development of AIDS in the body or at the very least maintain a patient's health condition.

Aside from AIDS/HIV, colloidal silver is likewise effective in treating and preventing other maladies. Studies have shown that colloidal silver's antibacterial properties are effective in treating wounds and skin burns. In fact, doctors in 2007 employed silver sulfadiazine (topically used and similar in action to colloidal silver) to treat skin burns. Research shows that colloidal silver is an effective treatment method for skin wounds and burns as it is antibacterial properties are effective in killing contagions as well as speed up healing and preventing further infections.

In fact, it is so effective that a good deal of wound dressings have embedded colloidal silver in them which helps in controlling infection in the wounds. During the fabricating of the bandage, nano-crystalline molecules of silver or colloidal silver are integrated into the bandage making it more effective in preventing contagions as well as speeding up the healing procedure of the skin. Colloidal silver is also known to be employed in medical gadgets such as catheters; this helps in preventing and controlling urinary tract contagions which may take place when a patient uses a catheter. Colloidal silver is ofttimes applied to treat ear, staph and intestinal infections; as well as, leukemia, conjunctivitis and other kinds of diseases.

Crime and the Moral Vacuum in South Africa

Although there is a reasonable amount of coverage in the media when it comes to the crime and corruption in South Africa, such as the arms deal debacle and crime versus tourists, there is an underlying moral vacuum which is seldom mentioned. Being conscious of the circumstance "on the ground" may give the reader a proper perspective of what incisively is happening here. Only property crime is dealt with here, as violent crime is a subject on it's own.

What follows is actual happenings and observations for the duration of normal day to day life. These are not stories or fabrications or even exaggerations, though it may seem that these items are too far fetched to be real. They are real.

1. A train derailed this week. It was carrying coal for export, and was a few kilometers long. These trains are a lot of of the longest in the world, up to three kilometers or more in length. The reason for the derailment was that persons had stolen the bolts that hold the railway line to the sleepers, over a great deal of hundreds of meters, to trade for scrap metal.

2. Near Johannesburg, a train carrying bags of cement broke down due to mechanical failure. While it was being repaired, the local people stole all the bags of cement off the train. Not thieves in the normal sense, but everyone: men, women and children.

3. Near Hluhluwe game reserve is a TV and radio broadcasting station. It has a standby generator to keep it on air for the duration of a power failure. Local humans cut through the fence, cut through the steel cage around the diesel tank, and carried off, in buckets, 2000 litres of diesel. A guard was hired to patrol the internetsite at night. They came again for the duration of the day and stole another 2000 litres that same week. There are now guards there 24/7 at a cost of R10,000 a month.

4. People are breaking into electrical substations and stealing the transformer oil out of the large, high voltage transformers, which police say they are retail as "cooking oil." This results in the transformer overheating and burning out, and whole areas lose electricity supply, including hospitals, restaurants and factories.

5. On windy days, fires are started measuredly in the farmlands to burn out white farmers who are slow in relinquishing their farms. The fires are uncontrollable, and sweep over thousands of hectares of tinder arid grasslands, gumtree plantations and sugar cane fields, destructing everything. People, black and white, lose their lives and possessions in these fires. On Saturday this week the local radio station reported that there were 75 dissimilar fires raging simultaneously. 24 persons are confirmed dead, and one firefighting plane went down, killing the New Zealander pilot. The smoke plumes were without doubt or question visable in the satellite weather photos.

6. Telephone wires are systematically stripped to get the copper, which is sold as scrap metal. People have now given up, and only use cellphones in a lot of areas, as their land line was never working.

7. A contractor who was building 30 metre cellphone masts offloaded an entire sectional 30 metre mast on a Friday, intending to erect the mast with a huge crane starting on the Monday. When he returned on Monday the entire mast had been stolen.

8. People have had their cars impounded at the police pound for parking illegally or galore other traffic offence. When they arrive a day or so later to gather their car, it has been stripped, inside the police pound yard, and only the shell of the car remains. This is a very mutual occurance.

9. A number of kilometers of railway line track was stolen near Johannesburg this last month.

10. Large electrical cables supplying suburbs with electricity, are dug up out of the ground and stolen, plunging big areas into darkness. The thieves do this to a "live" cable by laying the cable over a rock and hitting it with another big rock. This cable is sold for scrap. They may get R700 for the cable as scrap, but it costs in the region of R100,000 or more to replace the cable, plus the labour and time to do the job. Often these cables are pulled out of the ground with a big vehicle, removing hundreds of meters of cable.

11. Cats eyes, the reflectors built into the road surface to aid motorists in the mist, are stolen. Some rural areas have almost none left on the road for kilometers.

12. Any material left on a building internetsite is stolen within hours, even if locked behind a razorwire fence. Only an armed guard may keep it safe.

13. Businesses ordinarily have a razorwire fence, an armed response alarm system, cctv cameras and infrared beams in the yard. And they are still robbed regularly.

14. Water meters, which each house has where the water mains enter their property from the street, are broken off and stolen for the value of the brass they are made out of. Usually 4 or five are stolen in quick succession, and home owners wake up in the dead of night with a deafening hissing sound and rain falling on their house from a cloudless sky. This happens regularly. The meters are

As a teenager wanting to support a cause in a faraway place, there three things that you may do:

1) Hold fundraisers and send the cash to a rightful NGO working to combat AIDS in Africa

2) Promote cognizance of the problem by giving speeches, making flyers, writing articles, creating a web site or other than as supposed or expected getting the word out to give hope or courage to others to donate

3) Volunteer nearly for an establishment that is working on the issue thru Idealist.com or VolunteerMatch

Children With Aids Africa
olpc: Do children in africa actually need laptops with potential access to porn & extreme islamic sites?

Seriously, when there's not sufficient feed to go around and the kids' parents are dying young because of AIDS, wouldn't the 200bucks be better expended on setting up local libraries or anti-famine projects.

Using these stuff will let the kids know that they are in truth using the most inexpensive (pun intended) computers in the world. When these become obsolete would countries in africa be capable to handle the massive pile up of junk? Or would they be just sent to a great deal of computer junkyard in China instead?

Kids in these poorer countries tend to have lower supervision from their teachers due to lack of manpower. Will they be influenced without apparent effort by tempting websites like those providing pornography and extremist ideals?

If they care so much with regards to internet access for third world children, a better plan would be to set up desktop computers donated from industrialized countries in local libraries. This warrantees access to galore while avoiding needless waste.

for the most share i agee. it is weird how when the western world tries to aid out or think they are doing something for the good of man kind in so galore instances back fires and the communites suffer more. i have seen and read how western influence has lead to galore more problems......

How to Prevent Hiv/aids

HOW TO PREVENT HIV/AIDS

HIV/AIDS A sexually transmitted disease. It has million people. In 2000 alone, it killed 3 million. 80% of all cases are in sub-Saharan Africa.

The must vulnerable age group is amidst 15-25 years.

This is an apt picture of the AIDS prone age bracket. At this stage, galore essential conclusions will be made by the teenagers. Some will affect him for the rest of his life or at least for a heap of years to come. One of those conclusions he will have to make will be the one to be abstaining from, or indulge in sexual intercourse.

And society will tell him to indulge. That is okay to do. Society will tell him this on television, on radio, in magazines and music, on bill boards.

Society will entice him with it, shove him into it. And dame will curse him if he refuses to indulge in it. Why?

The dandier percentage of humanity is sexually undisciplined. And the indiscipline is not seen as indiscipline, but as liberty. Profligate is a norm.

And society seems designed to promote it.

The question of AIDS is dandier than the use of condoms to prevent it. True, teenage sex is a reality; destructive sexual exercises are present with humans of all ages.

But the real question AIDS poses is, what have you done to yourself? What are you doing today, right now, as you are reading this, doing to your self?

AIDS is pandemic because our moral laxity is endemic. It is strong because we are weak. And each day we promote our weakness I each thing we do.

The answer to the AIDS question is not in condoms. For condoms only heighten your lack of self control. And for those of us who have traveled the road of sexual experimentations, it is no news that it is like a vicious cycle.

The answer to AIDS is in the very simple wisdom of antennae. This does not only protect the procreative health, but promotes psychological health too. But is it feasible?

Difficult, yes. Because the humane alchemy makes it so. But impossible? No. Society says it is.

Conclusively, it will take a lot of work, a lot of commitment, a lot of time, the Anti AIDS crusade will have to be redesigned to advertize moral standard.

But most importantly, the person ought to determine to change. Without this, all attempts are in vain.

WHY WASH AND DRY HANDS

How do we contact cold and other infections? At lease 80% of such ailments are transmitted by our hands not through the air. In fact hand washing is the singled most primary way to prevent the disseminate of illness. Yet numerous do not always wash after using the toilet or blowing their nose or before handling food. Of course, a good deal of others always wash their hands at such times. But the potentials for infection does not decrease rapidly after a quick, perfunctory occupation of hand washing

Drying hands in the right manner may be evenly important; a good deal of persons do not arid their hands exhaustively after washing particularly when using hot air dryers. Many finish drying by wiping their hand on their clothes. This may disseminate any microorganisms left on the hands. It is best to arid hands completely, preferably using disposable paper towels or clean unused clothe towel.

One may prevent impairment of normal physiological functions through the following hand washing advice:

1.                            Always use warm running water and mild soap. If forced to use a basin rather of running water, clean and disinfect it each time it is used. Slightly wet towel lets do not efficaciously clean hands.

2.                            Rub hands together vigorously until a soapy lather appears and proceed rubbing for at least 15 seconds. Scrub the top s and palms of the hands as well as among fingers and fingernails.

3.                            Rinse hands beneath disposable ruing water.

4.                            Dry with a clean disposable or single-use, towel, and stay clear from touching the facet (a tap) or towel holder with clean hands.

5.                            Turn the facet off using the towel as a barrier to keep from touching the handle.

6.                            Children ought to wash standing at a height where their hands may hang freely under the running water. Always aid the child to carry out all the above steps, and then wash your own hands.

7.                            from now on, when next you use the toilet, blow your nose and before handling food, wash and arid hands thoroughly.

Good health for all.
